We're backing Pass Wide and Slow
When you're behind the wheel for the first time on New Zealand roads, it's not just the left-hand traffic and the open-road speeds that catch you out. It's the moment you come round a rural bend and there's a horse and rider — or a cyclist — sharing the same narrow stretch of road you're on.
That's exactly the kind of thing a visiting driver has no way of expecting. And it's why we're proud to support the New Zealand Vulnerable Road User Charitable Trust and their Pass Wide and Slow message.
The idea is simple. When you're passing someone on foot, on two wheels, or on horseback, slow down and give them room. Two metres for a horse and rider. A metre and a half for a cyclist or pedestrian. It costs you a few seconds. It can save someone's life.
That sits right at the heart of what Road Ready is about — getting drivers prepared before they pull out of the yard, not after something goes wrong. Every driver who completes our briefing is a driver who knows how to share the road with the people most exposed on it.
Pass Wide and Slow. Haere Whānui, Haere Pōturi. We're right behind it.
